Linux Server Management & Security

Tux, The Linux Penguin

Are you concerned about security? Efficiency? How about your bottom line and licensing fees? We’re pretty sure we have a solution to all of those concerns.

While Linux and other UNIX variants including OpenBSD are not an absolute guarantee (nothing is) of security and efficiency, with proper and skilled management, you’re not going to go wrong. However, Linux has proven itself with quick response to security vulnerabilities, bugs and is one of the most used

Over the years, we’ve shown clients how to host both their internal networks as well as their websites using the LAMP platform – Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP. It’s inexpensive, it’s open source, and it’s comforting.

Putting words like “comfort” and “technology” together don’t seem to mix.. but when it’s about your livelihood, your business, your ability to go on vacation, and know things are running, LAMP and comfort are like wool duvets. Keep you warm in winter, cool in summer and you’re always comfortable.

Our own experience with security and LINUX goes back to 1997, testing and pointing out bugs in a hosting system owned by a Russian conglomerate. As a result, our principal, Ian Scott, was immediately offered a position to manage the security systems, but he turned the job down.

In hindsight, that might have been fun – especially if it could have meant some fly fishing on some Russian rivers while talking shop about the future of hosting, security, Linux and web development.

But today, there is no regret in turning down Russian offers; we continue to love the LAMP platform, both for it’s amazing potential for you, and for its constant and ongoing checks of ensuring security and privacy, where that is important. And we love helping our clients without having to learn the Russian language.

If you’re beyond needing just a hosting account – and need the flexibility and power of having your own server, but have no clue how to administer it, then give us a call.
