A Little Promo For Suns Of Stone

I love music – and often you’ll find a wide variety of it playing in my office here in Orangeville – everything from Blues to Classic Rock, to Baroque, Irish folk and pipes and drums. So of course I’m very happy to see a love of music passed on down to my sons. At least three out of four of them have shown a major interest in learning musical instruments and also share my eclectic tastes.

Two of my sons, Alex and Colin, are both in a band out of Ottawa called “Suns Of Stone.” They’ve released a couple of CD’s and have been signed by a European label that is promoting their music over on that continent. As a result, they’ve garnered some excellent reviews and a nice following in France and other countries.

My eldest son Alex has been playing the drums ever since the inception of Suns Of Stone, while my third eldest (or second youngest, which ever you prefer) was added to the band as the bass player early in 2015. While I’ve been able to attend a number of gigs with Alex on drums, I finally was able to see both of my boys playing together on stage, in December when they played in Toronto. You could certainly say it was a “Proud Papa” moment!

Well, the lads are returning to Toronto and will be opening up for Saga on February 6th, 2016. I aim to be there and again it will be an extra special time for me as back in about 1981, Saga played at my high school in Richmond Hill! That’s really exciting for me! It’s almost mind blowing to realize that two of my sons will be opening up for a band that were counted among my favourites back when I was a teenager – over 32 years ago! I feel quite privileged and honoured to be able to say that I’ve got two such talented kids.

I should also speak a bit about my youngest son as well. David who is now 13 (by the way, he’s the author of Tales Of The Ablockalypse: The Chosen) is also a music lover himself. While it’s unfortunate that all the venues that Suns of Stone have played at have been 19+, he’s been busy listening to the second CD that Suns Of Stone released – memorizing all the songs.

Why is that important to note? Well David has pretty good taste in music himself! He counts Steve Strongman, Deep Purple, Queen, The Who and a few others as his top listening choices. He also proudly wears the Suns of Stone T-shirt around town whenever he can, doing what he can, to help promote his brothers’ music.

Have a listen to Suns of Stone yourself – here’s one of their videos and of course, if you click through to Youtube, you can hear even more. And if you like what you hear, consider circling February 6th as a date to head to Toronto to hear them live.
